MotionArt Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness, and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment. We offer ongoing dance classes in-studio, on Zoom, and outside (weather permitting).

Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

TU Dance Center: Winter Open Class Series

Join us this winter for a series of open classes at TU Dance Center. Teaching artists include TU Dance Founder and Artistic Director Toni Pierce-Sands, along with Wendy Anderson, Non Edwards, Hassan Ingraham, Laurel Keen, Anna Pinault, and Abdo Sayegh-Rodriguez.

The technique classes are for intermediate/advanced dancers, and the GYROKINESIS® and Dance/Yoga classes are for physically active people.

The GYROKINESIS® Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method that coordinates movement, breath, and mental focus. The GYROKINESIS® Method is practiced on a mat and chair.

Please check the Open Class Calendar as classes and/or teaching artists might change.
Cost: $16/class or $140/10 classes

Contemplative Dance Practice

Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP) is a movement meditation practice developed by Barbara Dilley in 1980. She describes it as a “dancer’s meditation hall.” It is a practice of mind and body integration and how we choose to move as a result. As a group, we observe and research—both alone and together. We “see rather than look at” with an acceptance of what arises in the present moment, without judgment. All are welcome.

Fridays, 10:00-11:30am
Suggested: $10

It will be an hour-long practice:

  • 15 minutes of sitting meditation
  • 20 minutes of personal awareness movement
  • 25 minutes of group awareness movement
  • Brief opening and closing circles

Feel free to bring a cushion or whatever will make sitting most comfortable for you. There will be a few extra cushions in the space.

Sunday Open Ballet

Open Ballet class is for every body! Come join the fun!

Sundays, 2:00-3:30pm

A ballet teacher with 35+ years of experience teaching all levels and ages, Lisa’s welcoming ballet classes naturally guide students in refining their alignment, balance, and technique while also discovering the value and importance of the use of weight in their dancing. Coupled with individual attention, feedback, and humor, students experience expansion and growth in body and mind – and experience joy in the process.

Students are encouraged to expect success and mistakes. Only when we allow ourselves to take chances and risk failure can we grow to our full potential. Every student is special, different, important, appreciated, encouraged, respected, unique, invited, and welcome. Come play and see for yourself!

Drop-in: Income-based sliding scale of $17-$20.
Pre-pay via Venmo @Lisa-Erickson-121 or with exact cash.
