Doma Dance Theater Launches Micro Residency Pilot Program

Doma Dance Theater launches week-long micro residency pilot program, CHYŽA.

Chyža (huzhzhah) meaning house, room, cottage, or cabin, is a word only found in the Carpatho Rusyn language.

With this in mind, we invite artists needing concentrated, unrestricted, settled time in one place to make the studio your chyža. Possible intentions are (but not limited to) cleaning work, long rehearsals, set development, prop work, pre-tech research, low tech preproduction, small showings, micro intensives, solo research, etc.

Residency weeks run Monday-Sunday.
Residents determine their own schedule, but are encouraged to use a minimum of 10 hours in the studio.
Additionally, artists receive 1-2 hours of mentorship during their stay from one artist from the Doma Team, mentor availability pending.

Doma Team: Alexandra Bodnarchuk, Marcela Michelle, Brandon Musser

This is an ongoing program with a rolling application form for residency weeks available between September-December 2024.

Panelists are offered a stipend of $300 for their work, which includes:

  • Four weeks of service (dates depend on program and team assignment)
  • A live virtual training with a program officer
  • Reading and scoring 25 applications online
  • A virtual full-day public panel meeting to discuss assigned applications

The time commitment is approximately 30 hours. Exact dates of service depend on team assignment.

Dance/USA Ecosystem Survey

Dance/USA champions an inclusive and equitable dance field by leading, convening, advocating, and supporting individuals and organizations. Dance/USA’s core programs are focused in the areas of engagement, advocacy, research, and preservation.

Dance/USA is conducting a survey of the national dance ecosystem! The survey is open to those living and/or working in the U.S., beyond our member community, who participate in the dance field – dance artists, administrators, presenters, technical teams, educators, archivists, agents, and more.

The purpose of the survey is to learn more about the artists, administrators and organizations who make up the U.S. dance community, the challenges they face, and how Dance/USA can serve and support them.

  • Take this opportunity to share your needs and challenges with the national service organization for dance.
  • The survey should only take you 5-10 minutes to complete.
  • Take the survey for a chance to win $100. Five survey respondents will be randomly selected to win a $100 American Express gift card.

Access the survey.

The data collected from the Dance Ecosystem Survey will be examined alongside information collected during our member survey to inform our Strategic Reframing Process, through which Dance/USA will re-evaluate and re-articulate their work as a national service organization.

Please share this survey with your  networks to ensure a thriving dance ecosystem for all!
