Boys Dance is geared for young people ages 5-11 that want to move! Blake Nellis offers an inclusive approach to dance for people of all ability, age and experience. In this class, students will explore self expression, a range of physical energies and group collaboration. The dancing skills and techniques will be integrated into the dancer’s interests and styles. Many dance games, scores and improvisations will be facilitated through solo and ensemble movement. Come play!
Blake Nellis (he/him) is an artist, educator and improviser who creates work with the body. His work is deeply rooted in human connection, physical touch and nature. He graduated from Luther College with a degree in Theater/Dance. He is a 2019 & 2015 recipient of the MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant (Photography & Dance respectively). He has taught and performed around the globe. He has produced work at the Walker Art Center, Patrick’s Cabaret, The Artbox, Red Eye Theater, TEK Box, Bryant Lake Bowl Theater & Luther College. His other professional dance experience includes performing with Mathew Janczewski’s ARENA Dances, Patrick Scully, Live Action Set, Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater, Jim Lieberthal’s Footholds Project, Jane Hawley, Hatch Dance, HoneyWorks, Rosy Simas & Taja Will. His favorite moments usually include ice cream, laughter, traveling, or nature. Or beer. And biking. And/or all of the above. www.blakenellis.org
Ages listed are recommended but not definitive. Students should arrive to class on time. If a student arrives late, please check in to receive access to class. The Arena administration appreciates advance notice of necessary absences. No horseplay will be permitted in the hall or the studio. A health waiver will need to be signed upon entry to the space. All Staff and students are required to wash hands or use supplied hand sanitizer before entering studio.
