Studio Stories: Special CB25 Spotlight with Doma Dance Theater

Studio Stories this week is with the CANDY BOX 2025 Happy Hour Artist Alexandra Bodnarchuk of Doma Dance Theater for Episode 178 airing at noon on Thursday, April 3!

Under the direction of Alexandra Bodnarchuk, Doma Dance Theater creates dance works for the stage and screen that explore the body as a tangible site of culture. Doma, the Carpatho-Rusyn word for “at home,” cultivates a sense of belonging, curiosity, and exuberant self-expression for its performers and audiences. Doma’s cross-cultural approach creates powerful contemporary dance works that examine shared experiences of diaspora and displacement.

Share Your 2025/2026 Dance Season

This is Mathew Janczewski, and I’m reaching out to gather information for the upcoming 2025/2026 dance season. If you’ve already planned your schedule or have an idea of your season (or when you do), I would love for you to share your plans with me.

I’m volunteering to help coordinate activities for the next season and to provide input into DanceMN in collaboration with the Minnesota Presenters Network (MPN). Our goal is to support potential touring performances that could happen before or after your main productions. Additionally, this work may help open doors for block booking opportunities, simplifying the process for both you and the presenters.

If you’re interested in participating or would like more information, please feel free to reach out! I’m excited to help make connections and support our vibrant dance community.

Please note that there is also a direct way to input your information into the Minnesota Presenter’s Website if you are a Member (which has great affordable artist pricing).

Doma Dance Theater’s CHYŽA: Week-Long Micro Residencies Program

Doma Dance Theater continues CHYŽA, a week-long micro residencies program.

“Chyža” (huzhzhah), meaning house, room, cottage, or cabin, is a word only found in the Carpatho Rusyn language.

With this in mind, we invite artists needing concentrated, unrestricted, settled time in one place to make our studio your chyža. Possible intentions are (but are not limited to) cleaning work, long rehearsals, set development, prop work, pre-tech research, low-tech preproduction, small showings, micro intensives, solo research, etc.

Residency weeks run Monday-Sunday.
Residents determine their own schedule but are encouraged to use a minimum of 10 hours in the studio.
Additionally, artists receive 1-2 hours of mentorship/eyes/ears/chat/Zoom during their stay from one artist from the Doma Team, mentor availability is pending.

This is an ongoing program with a rolling application form for residency weeks available January-May.
