CFPA’s Youth Creative Ballet Registration Closes This Friday

CFPA’s Creative Ballet for ages 7-12 is designed to inspire the creative imagination of budding artists while learning fundamentals of ballet. Students will learn the fundamentals of ballet while being introduced to other movement, music, and art forms.

Students will explore the basics of ballet: alignment and posture, outward rotation or turn out, strength, flexibility and ease of motion, spatial relationships and sharing space with others, the pleasure of moving to live music, and the joy of discipline. This program supports non-binary gender identification. The students will present a piece that incorporates both their ballet and their other artistic adventures.

7-Week Spring Session: April 14-May 19
Mondays, 4:30-5:30pm
Instructor: Kerry Parker
Tuition is $160. Scholarships are available.

Doma Dance Theater’s CHYŽA: Week-Long Micro Residencies Program

Doma Dance Theater continues CHYŽA, a week-long micro residencies program.

“Chyža” (huzhzhah), meaning house, room, cottage, or cabin, is a word only found in the Carpatho Rusyn language.

With this in mind, we invite artists needing concentrated, unrestricted, settled time in one place to make our studio your chyža. Possible intentions are (but are not limited to) cleaning work, long rehearsals, set development, prop work, pre-tech research, low-tech preproduction, small showings, micro intensives, solo research, etc.

Residency weeks run Monday-Sunday.
Residents determine their own schedule but are encouraged to use a minimum of 10 hours in the studio.
Additionally, artists receive 1-2 hours of mentorship/eyes/ears/chat/Zoom during their stay from one artist from the Doma Team; mentor availability is pending.

This is an ongoing program with a rolling application form for residency weeks available January-May.

TU Dance Center: Winter Open Class Series

Join us this winter for a series of open classes at TU Dance Center. Teaching artists include TU Dance Founder and Artistic Director Toni Pierce-Sands, along with Wendy Anderson, Non Edwards, Hassan Ingraham, Laurel Keen, Anna Pinault, and Abdo Sayegh-Rodriguez.

The technique classes are for intermediate/advanced dancers, and the GYROKINESIS® and Dance/Yoga classes are for physically active people.

The GYROKINESIS® Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method that coordinates movement, breath, and mental focus. The GYROKINESIS® Method is practiced on a mat and chair.

Please check the Open Class Calendar, as classes and/or teaching artists might change.
Cost: $16/class or $140/10 classes
