TU Dance: THREAT by Yusha-Marie Sorzano Premieres April 2024

TU Dance is one of four dance companies participating in the pilot program The O’Shaughnessy Dance Cohort. THREAT is an evening-length work choreographed by TU Dance Guest Artist Yusha-Marie Sorzano.

THREAT is a concert dance theater work that aims to provoke an interrogation of the roles we play as individuals and communities in hierarchies. The work posits that hierarchies have the power to control our behavior and infiltrate our thoughts, even when no authority is present to enforce the rules. Using a physical language and soundscape that fuses multicultural traditions and styles of the West and the African Diaspora, this social exploration invites audiences into a modern narrative that speaks to the universal experience of authority, obedience, and rebellion.

Introducing A New Local Company: Ruby Josephine Dance Theater (RJDT)

This week a new contemporary dance company has launched into the community! Ruby Josephine Dance Theater, or RJDT, is founded by choreographer and contemporary dance artist Ruby Josephine Smith. Through its emotional, fluid and often narrative work, this company aims to bring dance to its organic roots of connecting people through rhythm, flow, and exuberant expression. It digs deep into themes of human emotion, existence, and a connection to the intangible, exploring common threads and resonant stories.

While grounded in the movement vocabulary of the artistic director, it will frequently weave in the perspectives and voices of its dancers and international collaborators. This company will offer full-length productions, company classes and workshops, collaborations with Ruby’s web of international dancers and artists, and local community gatherings and events.

To learn more, support and get involved with this new company and stay up to date with all of these offerings, you can:
-Check out the RJDT website: https://www.rubyjosephine.com/
-Become a founding funder of the company: https://www.rubyjosephine.com/support
-Subscribe to our mailing list: http://eepurl.com/ds6RZT
