Sunday Open Ballet

Open Ballet class is for every body! Come join the fun!

Sundays, 1:30-3:00pm

A ballet teacher with 35+ years of experience teaching all levels and ages, Lisa’s welcoming ballet classes naturally guide students in refining their alignment, balance, and technique while also discovering the value and importance of the use of weight in their dancing. Coupled with individual attention, feedback, and humor, students experience expansion and growth in body and mind – and experience joy in the process.

Students are encouraged to expect success and mistakes. Only when we allow ourselves to take chances and risk failure can we grow to our full potential. Every student is special, different, important, appreciated, encouraged, respected, unique, invited, and welcome. Come play and see for yourself!

Drop-in: Income-based sliding scale of $17-$22.
Pre-pay via Venmo @Lisa-Erickson-121 or with exact cash.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary dance class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement.

Thursdays, 9:30-11:00am

Registration is open through Zenon’s MindBody portal.
See you soon!

Modern Dance Class with Thern at Tapestry

Dancing and finding pleasure in movement is for everyone of any age!

I’ve taught dance for all ages and experience levels for over fifty years. In my weekly session of modern dance classes, we’ll be working with somatic movement, structured improvisation, and floor work to build strength, flexibility, and ease of movement. You’ll learn patterns that move through space in community with other dancers, encouraging spatial and group awareness.

Mondays, 12:00-1:30pm

Drop in: $15-20. Cash or check made out to Kathryn Anderson.

Contemplative Dance Practice

Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP) is a movement meditation practice developed by Barbara Dilley in 1980. She describes it as a “dancer’s meditation hall.” It is a practice of mind and body integration and how we choose to move as a result. As a group, we observe and research—both alone and together. We “see rather than look at” with an acceptance of what arises in the present moment, without judgment. All are welcome.

Fridays, 10:00-11:30am
Suggested: $10

This is an hour-long practice with three parts:

  • 15 minutes of sitting meditation: A bell will sound. Find a relaxed posture, let the breath be easy, “touch thoughts” and let them go. This is your time for stillness.
  • 20 minutes of personal movement practice: A bell will sound. This is your personal exploration of bringing meditation practice into movement. Let small movements or stretches ease you in. Enter and explore the space as you are moved. This is a time for self-care, research, and to invite the unexpected. Trust your present moment.
  • 25 minutes of group movement practice: A bell will sound, and you return to your seat. See the space and acknowledge the container of “well-wishers.” Bow into and out of the space as you wish. We meet others and expand into group awareness and consciousness. Explore together.

There will be brief opening and closing circles. Feel free to bring a cushion or whatever will make sitting most comfortable for you. There will be a few extra cushions in the space.

Babywearing Dance Class

Young Dance is offering a new class for caregivers with very young children.

Babywearing Dance provides a unique opportunity for parents and caregivers to bond with their babies through the joy of dance. The class incorporates various movements, including swaying, stepping, bouncing, and more. Participants are encouraged to bring their carrier of choice, but holding their baby is also an option. In addition to dance, the class will also include time for socialization with other caregivers.

Participants can register for the session, purchase a 5-class card, or drop in as needed. Caregivers should wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Bring a carrier of your choice or hold your baby. Most participants take class barefoot, as street shoes are not allowed in the studios. Any shoes worn during class should be clean and only worn indoors.
