Red Lake Nation College is seeking experienced contemporary dancers for their grand opening performance in Fall 2023.
Indigenous Spirit will be choreographed by Nakeema King, and will be a fusion of powwow styles of dance with contemporary movement. The intention of this piece is to bring the awareness and attention of the Native diaspora in the fine arts, expanding Indigenous culture for the next generations to come.
Audition dates are Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12 from 12:00pm-3:00pm. This will be a three-week process of rehearsal and brush-up rehearsals during the months of June through August. Register by filling out the Google form. We will email all registered dancers information on the audition location and your audition date one week prior to auditions. The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 10.
Nakeema is an enrolled tribal member of the Upper Skagit Tribe and a descendant of the Choctaw Nation. She is also a student at the University of Minnesota working towards a BFA in Dance. She aspires to be an upcoming Indigenous artist and bring her training in contemporary movement to her culture of traditional Native dances.
This is a paying gig: $100 per performance for a total of four performances.
