Palestinian Dabke for Experienced Dancers in St. Paul - October 22

This workshop is designed for experienced dancers, choreographers, and anyone who is interested in deepening their understanding of traditional Palestinian dabke, including dalouneh and tayara. Dancers will also learn improvisation of the laweeh, the leader of the dabke circle.

Dabke is the traditional Palestinian dance form—performed at weddings and other celebrations—in which El-Funoun’s innovative dance style is rooted. The workshops will highlight the role of dabke as a form of cultural preservation and resilience. The international artists will provide an inspiring opportunity for participants to learn more about Palestinian culture, develop dabke skills, and connect with community members.

Wednesday, October 22, 10:30am-12:00pm
Location: Shawngram Institute for Social Justice, Ananya Dance Theatre
Class registration comes with a code for a free ticket to performances October 24-25.

We are asking a sliding scale fee of $25–$50 per class. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. All funds will go directly to support El-Funoun’s on-going work in Palestine.
