March Processional with Ambedkar Jayanti and Ananya Dance Theatre – April 13

Invitation to Process: Ambedkar Jayanti March

Ananya Dance Theatre invites your active participation in the first of five intentional, thematically structured, processions that explore the redirections offered by public protests and processions. We hope that these events will be vital gathering points for our Twin Cities BIPOC, Queer, Dalit, and other marginalized communities.

When and Where
Our first procession will take place on April 13, 2023, from 6:00-7:30pm CT.
Rain Date: April 15, 12:00-1:30pm

This procession, held one day before Ambedkar Jayanti (traditionally a festival commemorating Ambedkar’s legacy), will celebrate the tremendous work of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambekar, an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer, political leader, and a stalwart of the Dalit Liberation Movement.

We will gather between 5:45-5:55pm at ADT’s
Shawngrām Institute for Performance & Social Justice
1197 University Ave W
Saint Paul, MN 55401

Drishadwati Bargi, (Doctoral Candidate, Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, University of Minnesota), whose research focuses on anti-caste literature and cinema, will provide participants with a brief overview of the key teachings of Babasaheb Ambedkar and the Dalit Movement generally. The procession will then leave the Institute and journey to the Midway Peace Plaza, three blocks away.

To confirm your participation please fill out this registration form. For further questions, please reach out to phoebe.west@ananyadancetheatre.org.
