How to Cultivate Your REM Cycle - March 26 to March 29

This weekend only! Hatch Dance returns to the Southern Theater with the world premiere of How to Cultivate Your REM Cycle, a haunting and imaginative performance exploring the fragile boundary between sleep and waking life.

Blending dance, theater, live music, text, and projection, the work follows The Sleeper and The Dreamer through disrupted nights, looping thoughts, and strange inner landscapes. As dreams fracture and time slips, the piece asks what happens when rest becomes impossible—and what we lose when we stop dreaming.

Conceived by Helen Hatch with text by Jon Ferguson–created collaboratively. Performances by Artemis Brown and Joe Tennis, with Juliana Johnson, Connor Simone, Emily Trapnell, and Barbra Berlovitz, and apprentices Kaitelin Dambrine and Noelle Jackson. Live original music by Joe Strachan with Seth Conover, projections by Andrew Hatling, costumes by Jenny Hawkins-Hatch, and lighting design by Karin Olson.

Enter a world of soft attention and sudden interruption. Where nothing stays still for long. Where meaning arrives sideways.
