“Bluer Than Indigo” 藍より青し is a new collaborative work from Alys Ayumi Ogura and Masanari Kawahara (川原正也), created as a final project of the 2024 Artists in Residency Program at the Center for the Performing Arts (CFPA).
In this 20-minute live performance, we’ve taken our nostalgic memories and created something new that lies between their similarities and extreme opposites. It’s like a newly invented device that we might call a “reminiscence vending-machine” or a “nostalgia jukebox.” Kawahara is a Butō mover, and Ogura is a modern/contemporary dancer. We hope you can join this first exploration.

“Bluer Than Indigo” 藍より青しis a part of “X (Cross) cultures: A Celebration of Performance & Collaboration” festival at CFPA, happening Saturday, September 7 from 6:00-9:00pm. Other collaborative artist teams are Erica Jo Vibar Sherwood, Asha Rowland, and Renee Copeland, and Isabella Dawis and Kyle Weiler. The event will be joined by guest artists, Brass Solidarity, Afoutayi Dance, Music & Arts, and Danza Folklorica Mexico Lindo!
