What is the Insomnia Salon?
The Insomnia Salon is a surreal, sleepless performance and art collective. The Salon brings together troubled souls in these anxious times for conversation, magic, myth, poetry, music, dance, and art to allay our fears, build human connection, and spark a creative, loving response to the problems of our time.
What’s this new Kaffeeklatsch thing?
“Kaffeeklatsch” is German-Yiddish for “coffee gossip.” While the Art Nosh workshops are more formal, Kaffeeklatsch is an informal gathering of multidisciplinary artists to simply chat over hot drinks, do a short creative warm-up, and co-work on your projects in a designated space with the help of community accountability.
Monday, May 11 from 12:00-1:00pm at Hopkins Dance Company will be a performance-focused Art Nosh kaffeeklatsch, with open studio space available for you to work on any personal project. Julie Marie Muskat will lead a brief movement-based practice to help us ground in our bodies and imaginations, and then there will be time for your own art practice and/or time to help the Insomnia Salon team plan our upcoming August performance: Insomnia Salon Volume 3 will be Sunday, August 23 on Raspberry Island, in partnership with the Saint Paul Parks.
We would love to have you and your artistry for this event, and are hoping you can join us. We are beginning to finalize our list of performers and contributing artists, so now is the time to let us know if you want to collaborate with us!
We will share our vision and initial logistics/plans for the event and some of the initial “save-the-date” and production artwork to help your creative juices flow. Then we’d love to hear from you about how you’d like to contribute and be part of this Night Circus/Night Garden/River themed event. There will be food trucks! And maybe a wine vendor!
If you cannot make it to the May 11 event, but you want to participate, please email julie.muskat@gmail.com and let us know. We are so excited to build this magical event and deepen this artistic community with you!
