Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is a system that examines the subtle meanings within all patterns of movement and physical actions. The study of LMA increases awareness of individual movement styles; develops sensitivity to cultural non-verbal patterns and promotes a deeper understanding of the communicative and expressive nature of all forms of movement and dance. LMA is important tool in all fields that work with movement- including psychotherapy, education, kinesiology and non-verbal communications, dance, music, and theater. This class will introduce the student to the basic theory and elements of LMA to develop and enhance awareness of non-verbal/movement expression. This course fulfills a prerequisite for the Certification program in Laban Movement Analysis and partial fulfillment of the Movement Observation requirement for the R-DMT Alternate Route.
