Featuring choreography by Ananya Chatterjea, this world premiere by Theater Mu follows Q, a nonbinary immigrant who plants a magical garden to try and prepare their new home for their family—much to the interest of a neighborhood girl and the distrust of their father. Helping embody playwright Ankita Raturi’s story is a dance ensemble of Eliana Durnbaugh, Kiko Laureano, Mars Niemi, Alyssa Taiber, and Taylor West as well as puppet designs by Oanh Vu and Andrew Young.
As Lavender Magazine says, “You’ll likely appreciate FIFTY BOXES OF EARTH for its creativity, queerness and unique tone. I recommend FIFTY BOXES OF EARTH for people who like interpretive dance, puppets, and queer stories.”
The show runs through Mar 16 at Park Square Theatre, and tickets are Pay As You Are starting at $10.
