About Catalyst

In collaboration with the performers I will employ a choreographic practice rooted in my values of the autonomy, sovereignty and wisdom of our bodies. Through prompts, protocols and choreographic scores, I will craft movement that calls into being as-yet-imagined possibilities, rooted in their lived, sensory experiences. I love when physical effort is visible and when the choices made by exceptionally skilled improvisers are made legible too. “Orienting our cells to justice,” for example, is both a physical process and a commitment. How a dancer chooses to make that orientation may change depending on an emotional state, or the state of the world. As I incorporate this material into shifting choreographic structures that amplify their individual expression, I give equal weight to movement and stillness, story and image, and our power as dancers to embody our vision for a better world.
