Medusa's full story is scarcely known beyond her vilified ending as a monster and destroyer of men. Vox Medusa dance company and Infiammati FireCircus join forces to honor the powerful myth of Medusa's transformation from Athena's loving and devoted priestess to demonized gorgon. Infiammati spins fire to bring to life Medusa's emotional state and the destruction of her innocence, while Vox Medusa unfolds her tale of sorrow and redemption. MEDUSA is a fiercely provocative and visually stunning outdoor production set along the bank of Boom Island Park. This poignant story is retold by passionate artists collaborating through contemporary dance, fire performance, a video projected set, and an original electronic music score accompanied by live vocalists. Vox Medusa has earned the Fringe Audience Choice Awards in 2014 and 2015.

MEDUSA is presented August 9-12 at 8:30pm each evening.
Audience may bring blankets or collapsible chairs for seating if desired.

Eighteen-year-old Mariana Thompson is wrapping up ten years at Circus Juventas with a starring role in the summer spectacular, Nordrsaga. As Eir, leader of the Valkyries, she is featured in some of the show's most awe-inspiring moments, including a variety of trapeze acts and a duo skating routine where she is airborne much of the time. She is also a part of one of Nordrsaga's most spectacular highlights, a custom-designed Russian cradle act, featuring a fifteen-foot swinging Viking ship and four flyers, four catchers
and four pumpers who move the ship, creating a whirlwind of aerial acrobatics, brute strength and fearlessness.

Nordrsaga runs through August 13 under the Big Top at 1270 Montreal Ave., St. Paul. The story is told through the cirque nouveau style, combining artistic storytelling with wondrous physical feats in the tradition of Cirque du Soleil. Tickets are available through Ticketworks (http://www.ticketworks.com), 612-343-3390, or by calling the Circus Juventas Box Office, 651-699-8229.

Vivify - A Still Life in Motion explores the kinetic possibilities of iconic visual art. Minnesota Dance Collaborative is excited by the challenge of reinterpreting classic works of art through the mediums of music and movement. Dancers will bring to life the elements of art with a focus of the visceral connection of color and emotion. Though the majority of dances are choreographed to instrumental music, we seek to honor the voice of the artists we highlight by using their own statements as a way to transition from dance to dance and color to color.

Crash Dance Productions presents: You Are Here. Inspired by principles of phenomenology, universal laws, existentialism, and determinism, You Are Here seeks to identify the fleeting, reflective conscious under lenses of the past and the future. If the universe is absolute, and time is independent, consciousness becomes the process in which we assign meaning to the world around us, forming a reality convoluted by interpretation. But time moves both ways, turning even a moment of awareness into a web of then and now, of there and here.

MN Dance and the Ecstasies of Influences wraps ups three seasons at The Cowles Center. As we prepare to hand over the final documents to the Performing Arts Archives (PAA) at the University of Minnesota Libraries, we invite you to contribute your story as well. Join us in a conversation around what has been collected, where these stories take us, and how we can fill in the gaps for the next generation of artists, researchers, and advocates.

The Performing Arts Archives was established in 1971 by the University of Minnesota Libraries for the preservation and study of the records relating to the history of theatre, music, dance, and associated organizations in Minnesota. Its goal is to document as fully as possible the activities of individuals and groups in both professional and amateur performing arts throughout the state. Dance collections include the archives of Minnesota Dance Theatre, James Sewell Ballet, Ananya Dance Theatre, and Zorongo Flamenco to name only a few.

Ragamala Dance Company presents: Alarmél Valli - internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer/choreographer, accompanied by a musical ensemble from South India.

Ragamala Dance Company launches its 25th anniversary home season with an evening of dance by the legendary Alarmél Valli. Artistic Directors Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy have been studying under Ms. Valli since 1984; their training with this master artist formed the foundation of their aesthetic and has been fundamental to the work of the company.

Acclaimed internationally for her ability to turn a traditional grammar into a subtle, deeply internalized, personal dance poetry, Alarmél Valli’s dance is uncompromisingly classical, but is, at the same time, an undeniable language of self-expression.

Please join us for a Flow Space class with guest artist Gregory Dolbashian.

FLOW SPACE: An atmosphere that allows for the act of “pure play” to help dance artists use more capacity, intellect, sense, courage, and imagination in their movement styles. Conducted by director of The DASH Ensemble, Gregory Dolbashian, the class is a highly developed series of improvisational tools and games that warms and pushes both the mind and the body to break habits and fulfill more presence. These exercises are all methods that Gregory has developed and utilized to create movement with The DASH. The artists learn confidence not just in themselves but also in the environment that they are a part of. Games and tasks work both on the individual and in tandem, so that Flow Space creates a community for progress, inspiration, and most of all, discovery.
This class is for dancers sixteen years old and older.
