PERFORMANCES and EVENTS

Threads Dance Project has been monitoring the development of the COVID-19 situation and has made the difficult decision to cancel three upcoming events:

Threads Audition - March 31

Bloom: A Spring Fundraiser - April 1

Tapestries 5.0 - April 24-26

We do not make this decision lightly but know this is best for our staff, company, and patrons.

Hello all,

With the health risk posed by COVID-19 (coronavirus), The Cowles Center is postponing all scheduled Spring 2020 performances.

The Cowles is working with our season partners, who are all dedicated to reschedule for new show dates in 2020, and we will update ticket buyers via email as dates become solidified. Tickets will be transferable. As a leading performing arts center in Minnesota, we pride ourselves in bringing our patrons high-quality performances and want to allow our partners the space and time to create the work that best reflects their talents.

Our greatest concern is to keep our staff, collaborating artists, and our audiences and their families safe and healthy. Because of this, all on-site, in-person programming offered by The Cowles Center will be postponed until mid-April.

Be well,
The Cowles Directors Collaborative

Butoh is a contemporary Japanese performance art form that began in the late 1950's. Originally started as an anti-establishment, anti-traditional dance theater, butoh explores the relationship between our mind and body, and it questions society's perceptions of the body and ideas of "beauty." Though it is considered an underground art form, butoh is practiced all over the world.

This one-day workshop is for people who want to experience Doushin Butoh. The essence of Doushin Butoh is “Resonance,” beyond idea or concept. It can only be felt and experienced.

Come and experience the power of Resonance!

Call for submissions! Send me your short dance film with face-touching gesture-ography. Do exactly what they recommend not to do—touch your face! I will create a collaborative dance film with submissions with the added challenge of making it on my phone. I'm using this current pandemic as a way to connect differently with friends and artists. I've been creating more dance films and want to create something with all of you. This is not a paid offering but anyone can be involved.

Don't let COVID-19 derail your dance training! Ballet Royale is offering "Ballet Virtuale"—an online ballet training program designed for dancers of all ages to continue their growth and development through remote dance classes. All classes will include corrections, tips, detailed explanation, and demonstration by our renowned faculty. This program is focused on enabling ballet students to safely work at home with quality, guided instruction.

Subscriptions will be available on a private YouTube channel, open to all dancers worldwide, and are FREE for all current Ballet Royale students! Classes began March 23 and will continue until we are advised by the Minnesota Department of Health, the CDC, and WHO that the crisis is past and it is safe to resume in-person classes. The health and safety of our dancers, families, staff, and community is our first priority.

Join Ballet Royale in letting our love of dance continue to bring us joy in these confusing days!

Katha Dance Theatre was founded over 30 years ago with the intention of making Kathak dance accessible and relevant in Minnesota. Today, we are still working toward that mission through providing Minnesotans with Kathak dance education from some of the art form's greatest performers. Kathak is beautiful blend of lyrical grace, rhythmic footwork, pirouettes, and gestural storytelling, encouraging self-expression in its dancers.

We are excited to be offering a new class for Kathak beginners of all ages! Join us at our St. Louis Park studio on Saturdays from 9:00-10:00 a.m. starting on June 6.
Note: there will be no class on Saturday, July 4.

The full schedule, featuring options for absolute beginners to advanced Kathak dancers ages six and above, is available on our website. If you have Kathak experience but are new to KDT, email us at info@kathadance.org to determine your class placement.

Summer tuition is $160. The drop-in price is $25 per class.
